My
name is Lauren and I am the founder of the Christian based
ministry known as
Hannah's Hats of Hope
and
Claire's Caring Comforts
The
purpose of this ministry is to serve the needs of the homeless and/or
those trying to transition back into a better and more productive
quality of life. The way I do this is by filling gift bags with
hygiene, toiletry and feel good items, along with hats that I crochet.
Each bag also includes a Bible for those that want and need scripture in
their lives. Basically anything that will hopefully regain pride and
self esteem to the recipient is part of the package.
I
pass these bags out at a local soup kitchen on Thanksgiving Day. A
warm meal and a bag full of love and care helps to brighten the future
of so many. It also instills in them that there are so many people
who care and would like to help.
This ministry came about after all the weather related tragedies that
occurred in 2005. So many people lost just about everything and
had to start over again. This also made me think of all the
homeless and needy people that had already been struggling to live a
life with respect and dignity. After researching these needs in my area,
I decided to concentrate my efforts on doing something and making a
difference.
I
depend totally on donations of items that you might have collecting dust
around the house. We all seem to have more than we need and there
is always someone out there that can use something that we don't use.
As I have looked around my house, I have found many things that would be
useful, along with some very creative items.
Starred items are those that are needed the most right now. Just
about all items needed are sample or travel size [also the freebies we
get at hotels]

Standard size gift bags [approx lunch bag size]
